Disney, here I come!!! (again)

So the news for the day is that I started applying for my Disney internships this summer. I’m applying for two internships, one as a Stage Technician Intern, and one as an Engineering Intern in their Imagineering program. Pretty cool. It’s very… well… Nick Smarto-ish. I’d hate to be away from home this summer, but I think I could handle Florida or California.

Lets see… What else is new? I watched President Bush’s State of the Union address. It was alright. He definately has been practicing his public speaking skills (and his wireless earpiece was a definite helper).

This week, Michelle is coming to visit me! I’m so excited. It’s nice to have her come here for a change, becuase it’s a long drive up there. Greyhound offers a State College - Pittsburgh express route so it will only be marginally longer for her then driving a car.

Besides that, nothing else new. I spend most of my free time praying that I get the internship. If you don’t here from me for a few days… you’ll know I didn’t get it.

On week down, 15 to go…

Well, the first week of the semester is over. I guess it went pretty well. I have quite a lot of work this semester, and I really need to bring my GPA up, so I’ll be working very hard. I also started my job Friday evening. I’m now the lighting assistant for Carnegie Mellon’s school of drama. It’s basically a work study, and in a way, I’m like a TA. I help non-technical drama students practice technical skills like lighting and projection. I don’t get paid that much, but I’m getting paid, and it’s something I like to do, so I have no objections to the work.

Yesterday and the day before, we were focusing fixtures for CMU’s production of Alcina. Focusing is pretty easy work, except for the feat of gymnastics to get to the different fixtures in the Chosky theatre. Never the less, I’m very please with having this type of job. It’s a great supplement to my course work becuase with a student in my situation, its very difficult to obtain backstage hours, so I lucked out. No matter what classes you take, you learn so much more working in the theatre.

This weekend was pretty boring besides work. I really didn’t do anything else. I put some more hours in working on the website, I did a little homework, and as soon as I’m done with the blog entry, I’m going to order books online. I complain about CMU too much as it is, but ever Saturday night that goes by that I sit in my apartment, I get just a little more depressed over it.

Spring Semester 2… This time, it’s personal.

New blog, new post, why not? Today, I’ve done alot with the website. I got the new photo gallery working nicely and I added a ton of pictures. All counted, I have about 3100 pictures on the gallery now. I was also fortunate enough to be able to recover all the old photos, view counts and comments from the previous gallery. Then, I decided to fix the blog also. This one is powered by Blogger and seems pretty fool proof, since it doesn’t use server databases like my previous ones had.

So what is new worth telling about? Thats a pretty relative question, because the few people that proabably read these posts proabably know most of the things I post about. Anyways, Christmas break was nice and long. It was nice to get a break from school, but I’m almost glad to be back becuase the sooner I get started with this semester, the sooner I can get out of here for summer. Break was pretty boring because me and my friends really didn’t do anything. Usually, our break time is spent at the Skvarla complex sitting around with the various laptops. Still, that doesn’t mean we didn’t find time to do some fun things.

Christmas kinda sucks becuase its like 4 months of preparation for like a day of celebration. It’s nice to see the family and everything, but overall, Christmas isn’t really a good investment based on time spend vs. return, ha ha. I got an XBOX 360 though, so it’s all good.

I have a pretty awesome schedule this semester though! I only have like 920 minutes of class a week, and 37 credit hours. (Credit hours are like 1/2 of a credit, so you get an idea.) I’m taking Fluid Mechanics, Differential Equations, Stress Analysis and Production Electrics.

The apartment is still working well. I’m getting along great with my roomate, Ryan. Everything else is pretty boring…

I guess no news is good news.
